2024-2025 ACADEMIC CALENDAR
The Starkville Oktibbeha School District Board of Trustees approved the academic calendar for the 2024-2025 academic year at its February board meeting. SOSD operates a non-traditional calendar that provides teachers and students with meaningful breaks along with two intersession periods for innovative learning opportunities. Whether students need Accelerated Learning designed to help them catch up on key skills or Enhanced Learning aimed at helping students delve into their passion, purpose and potential, the modified calendar is... designed for INNOVATION. driven by STUDENT NEEDS, and scheduled for EXCELLENCE.
What's New for the 2024-2025 Academic Year?
TIERED FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL
For the 2024-2025 Academic Year, SOSD will implement a tiered start to school to enable teachers to meet new students, receive supplies, introduce expectations and begin building relationships in a more intimate classroom environment with fewer students. We hope this new approach will help students to transition more easily into the new school year.
How it works...
JULY 23 -- Only students with a last name beginning with A-M will report for the first day of school. All Class of 2025 Seniors will report for the first day of school on July 23.
JULY 24 -- Only students with a last name beginning with N-Z will report for the first day of school.
JULY 25 -- All students will report to school to follow our regular schedule.
SHORTER FALL INTERSESSION & FULL WEEK OF FALL BREAK
For the 2024-2025 school year, Fall Break will be expanded to a full week (October 7-11). This change will create an extended break for students and teachers at the end of each 9-week term which we hope will provide much needed rest and renewal for a new start to learning. Additionally, in an effort to make Fall Jacket Thrive Intersession more efficient and effective, SOSD will implement a 5-day Fall Intersession (October 14-18), rather than the 8-day period used in previous years.
