ARMSTRONG JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL

Armstrong Junior High School offers students an 8th grade experience rich in academics, arts, athletics and extra-curricular activities. While students continue rigorous instruction in core subjects, they can also engage in elective courses including band, choir, photography, theatre, Spanish, art, and more. Ambassadors, Student Council and a variety of extra-curricular clubs, sports and exploratory blocks offer leadaership opportunities and help students discover their passion, purpose and potential.

PREPARING FOR HIGH SCHOOL

At AJHS, 8th grade students also begin preparing for their individualized high school experience through the district's innovative curriculum. All students participate in Keystone class where they learn skills necessary to be successful in high school. During this course, students explore college and career options through experiential project-based learning to help them determine their interests and skills. At the end of the course, students choose to participate in one of the 17 career pathways available through the Academic Houses at Starkville High School. School counselors work with students and parents to begin a flexible individual student success plan to help them identify a desired diploma option, map out coursework strategy and track credits for graduation goals.

A SPACE BUILT FOR EXCELLENCE

In 2023, the Starkville Oktibbeha School District completed a renovation of Armstrong Junior High School, creating a dynamic physical learning environment poised for student excellence. The renovation included new lighting, ceilings, paint, doors, restrooms and HVAC system. Modernized science labs support collaboration and encourage exploration, and a new gym floor provides an additional court for the Yellow Jackets to call home. A renovated AJHS Library and MakerSpace offers students creative space for robotics, audio and video production.
