DISTRICT-LEVEL ASSESSMENTS

In addition to state-required assessments, Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District administers several types of assessments at the district level that are not required. However, we believe these district-level assessments provide valuable insight about individual student growth as well as provide students with important advantages as they pursue thier next steps after high school.

As part of our commitment to ensuring every student can achieve one year's growth during one school year, the district employs benchmark 9-week assessments beginning in 2nd grade. These assessments allow teachers to measure a student's progress as they learn important skills as well as mastery of content areas.

COLLEGE & WORKFORCE READINESS ASSESSMENTS

SOCSD administers the ACT test to all 10th and 11th grade students during school hours at no cost to families. Providing this opportunity allows students to gain higher scores on the ACT which is required to enroll at most colleges and universities as well as boost their eligibility for ACT-base scholarships.

Through the Millsaps Career & Technology Center at SHS, the district administers the WorkKeys Assessment as well as the appropriate tests for various CTE certifications. The ACT WorkKeys is a system that determines, builds, and measures essential workplace skills that can affect job performance. Scores are earned in silver, gold and platinum classifications. The Workkeys assessment is often a key component of job screening, and some employers require the assessment before hiring a new staff member. Each CTE program offered through the Academic Houses at SHS includes national industry-specific certifications that students may earn as part of their coursework. Qualifying assessments for certifications are offered throughout the year. Certifications allow students to enter the workforce with advanced skills and qualifications that are valuable to employers.
