Starkville High School Quarterback Trey Petty has been named "Mr. Football" for class 7A by the Missississippi High School Activities Association. The 6'1", 190-pound senior was selected for the annual award by a committee of high school coaches and state-wide media in conjunction with MHSAA and the Mississippi Association of Coaches.
Petty is a University of Illinois commit, and has been starting quarterback for SHS Yellow Jacket football since his sophomore year. During the 2023 regular season, the 3-star recruit completed 128 of 201 passes for a total of 1766 yards, including 16 touchdowns. In addition, Petty rushed for an average of 12.3 yards per carry for a total of 728 rushing yards and seven touchdowns.
An awards ceremony for class 1A-7A Mr. Football recipients will be held on December 5.
