Share the Love: Art at Home Project

Examples of love letters

The K-5 elementary art teachers in Jacket Nation LOVE our students and want to stay connected. We miss seeing all of our students! In this very challenging season, we want to encourage a spirit of positivity. You never know how even the smallest of words/actions can touch someone else… so let’s SHARE THE LOVE!

SHARE THE LOVE is an art project you can do at home featuring typography (text). REQUIREMENTS: 1. The word LOVE should be emphasized in your artwork. 2. Another tip is the text in your artwork should be large and fill the space. 3. Use your creativity! 4. You may create with any medium desired. Please take a photo of your original artwork and email the photo to (amcreynolds@starkvillesd.com) by Friday, April 24th.

In a video on the SOCSD’s YouTube Channel, Amy McReynold’s, Sudduth’s K & 1 Art Teacher, has shared some of her original artwork collection she has purchased for her home. You can watch the video here:  https://youtu.be/LXyIRcXPBYg

One of her special pieces is a work that features “LOVE” typography by local artist, Catherine Ann Herrington Davis. This special artist will serve as inspiration for our project. You can view more of her work @hiyallcat and hiyall.com. Mrs. Davis also has graciously donated two art prints that will be prizes. A randomly selected winner from all submissions for K-2 and 3-5 will win an art print featuring “LOVE” typography by Mrs. Davis. Winners will be announced Monday, April 27th.

To help learn more about how to create art that features typography, you can watch three instructional videos on the SOCSD’s YouTube Channel.   You can access the videos at the following links:

You can  view more artwork by the following diverse artists that feature typography with very unique styles, techniques, and variety of mediums for more inspiration. Instagram: @lynn_giunta (Lynn Giunta), @tolgagirgin99 (Tolga Girgin), @sabeenu (Sabeena Karnik), @nullsie (Sharon Nullmeyer), @jasonnaylor (Jason Naylor), @inspirowl (Deniz Akerman). You can also do a google search of all these artists to view images of their amazing artwork.

When you’re done with the project, place your artwork in a street side window of your home, mail it to someone special that you are unable to see right now, or hang it in a prominent place in your home as a reminder to love others. This is a way you can SHARE THE LOVE while socially distancing. What other ways can you SHARE THE LOVE during quarantine? THE GREATEST OF THESE IS LOVE!
