A SPACE FOR EXCELLENCE
Maker space, collaborative work places inside our schools, focuses on student-centered inquiry and supports peer collaboration while encouraging our students to engage in conversations and build relationships as they learning together.
From virtual goggles that take you on an excellent adventure to drawing tablets with disappearing ink to encourage our creative artists to green screens for student productions, these 21st learning environments captivate and fuel imagination while engaging students as problem solvers, critical thinkers and collaborators.

In 2019, SOSD was one of fifteen Mississippi school districts to be selected through a competive application process by the Mississippi State Board of Education (SBE) to receive funding for a K-8 STEM Initiative Enhancement Project Grant. The $120,000 grant enabled SOSD to implement initial Maker Spaces at four campuses.
