Dear HWS Parents --
Our team has met with City of Starkville personnel and contractors to discuss the upcoming revitalization project for the Hwy 182 corridor. Lane closures and impacts to HWS carpool traffic will begin on Thursday, September 26. Please be aware of the anticipated changes to traffic flow listed below. The City has provided us with a map of lane closures below. Also, please scroll down for an updated carpool map showing the current changes.
- Beginning on Wednesday, September 25, the 4th grade carpool "express lane" adjacent to 182 will be closed. We anticipate this closure to last at least through Intersession week.
- Beginning Thursday, September 26, 182 from Long Street to Pilcher Street on the West side of campus will convert to one-lane with ONLY East-bound traffic. No access to Pilcher Street will be permitted.
- Also beginning Thursday, September 26, West-bound traffic on 182 from Jackson Street will be rerouted with the exception of "local traffic" to the construction zone. HWS carpool will be considered "local traffic." Carpool parents will be able to travel from Jackson Street to School Street going West-bound and follow the normal carpool route onto campus.
- NO East-bound traffic will be allowed to enter campus on School Street for carpool. All carpool traffic onto campus MUST travel West-bound from Jackson and turn right onto School Street.
- ALL carpool traffic will exit School Street going left (East-bound) onto 182. Cars exiting carpool will not be permitted to turn right for West-bound travel onto 182.
- School Resource officers will be present to provide assistance as we begin this change to carpool next week, and we ask that parents use extra caution in the construction zone and pay careful attention to instructions provided by traffic officers.

We will continue to keep parents informed when the first date of carpool changes will occur. We ask for your continued patience as we navigate the impacts of this construction project, and we look forward to the positive changes it will bring to this important city corridor.
