Starkville Oktibbeha School District has named Dr. Vernita Wilson as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction.
The Starkville Oktibbeha School District has named Dr. Vernita Wilson as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. She will replace Dr. Christy Maulding who is retiring in June. Dr. Wilson's hiring was approved at the May Board of Trustees meeting.
Dr. Wilson comes to the Starkville-Oktibbeha School district with over 17 years of experience in public education and extensive experience in educational sales. She has most recently served as the Manager of MS Sales for the Bailey Education Group, LLC. Before entering sales, Dr. Wilson served as the Executive Director of Professional Development in Jackson Public Schools (JPS). Additionally, she served as a curriculum director, a literacy specialist, an ELA instructional specialist, and an English and Spanish teacher during her career with JPS.

"She has a wealth of experience working with districts across Mississippi to support their professional development of teachers and effective classroom instruction. Her experience in the classroom and as an instructional specialist will be a huge asset as we continue to provide students with excellent learning opportunities that lead to successful outcomes."
In addition to her work with Bailey Education Group, LLC and Jackson Public Schools, Dr. Wilson has served as an adjunct instructor at Alcorn State University, lead teacher for the Summer Developmental Program at Alcorn State University, an English II educational consultant for the Kirkland Group, and an item writer for the GRE and MCT2 assessments. She taught English and Spanish in the Vicksburg-Warren School District and the Hinds County School District in addition to coaching varsity and 9th grade basketball and track.

Dr. Wilson will begin her role as Assistant Superintendent on July 1.
