Starkville Oktibbeha School District has named Karen Robinson as the district's new Parent and Community Liaison. In the position which was created earlier this year, Robinson will assist parents with problems and needs involving their students as well as establish and maintain partnerships with community agencies to enhance supports for students, parents, and teachers.
Robinson is a native of Starkville and has served as a teacher at both the kindergarten and middle school level for the Starkville Oktibbeha School District and the former Oktibbeha County School District as well as in other districts across the state. Most recently, she served as a Community Literacy Specialist with the SOSD Discovery Center's Reading 2 Succeed program where she planned community engagement and literacy-focused family events, developed partnerships with community advocacy organizations and stakeholders, and worked with parents and families to strengthen the connect between home, school and community.
"We are excited to welcome Karen to this new role in the district," said Dr. Tony McGee, SOSD Superintendent. "As Parent and Community Liaison, her experience with Reading 2 Succeed and her volunteer efforts throughout Oktibbeha County will be invaluable as she works with community partners to identify resources and serves as an advocate for our families and children."
In her role as Parent and Community Liaison, Robinson will plan and coordinate parent meetings, workshops, and events at the school and district level and serve as a resource for parents concerning school programming, resources, and services. She will also work with parents and the larger school community to facilitate and enhance engagement with schools and the district.
