Starkville High School Volleyball players, Zariyah Edwards and Riley Suggs were named to the MHSAA Region 2 All-Region team for the 2023 season. Both student athletes were also named to American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) national watch lists earlier this fall.
"The All-Region honors are a huge accomplishment for our Jacket Volleyball program," said Meghan Mullane, who completed her first season as head Volleyball coach for the Jackets with a playoff appearance in October. "Zariyah was nominated as a captain for our team, and not only brought power, but energy to the court every game. Riley was our starting setter for the team and one of our strongest servers. I'm very proud of them for this honor."
Senior Riley Suggs was voted the Starkville High School Defensive Player of the Year for 2023, and finished out the season with 44 aces, 239 assists and 129 digs. She was one of only 27 players in Mississippi to be named to the AVCA High School Girls All-American watchlist.
Junior Zariyah Edwards led the SHS team in total blocks for the season with 85, and led the team with 103 kills. She was also voted the Starkville High School Most Valuable Player for the 2023 season. In October, she was one of only 26 players from Mississippi named to the AVCA High School Girls Phenom watchlist.
