Staff meeting turned into a surprise Happy "B" Day Celebration on Monday as Henderson Ward Stewart administrators treated staff to a party celebrating the "B" school accountability rating HWS received from Mississippi Department of Education for the 2022-2023 MAAP scores. Scores showed growth over the data from the previous school year, and totals brought HWS within only four points of earning an "A" rating.
During the celebration, staff popped confetti, enjoyed snacks, looked at year-to-year progress data and celebrated teachers with the highest performing scores. HWS has seen unprecedented growth in the last few years on our accountability scores, revealing how hard teachers, students and families have worked to implement intervention with struggling students, provide innovative learning experiences around core skills, and preparing students for the test schedule.
"You have shown tremendous growth, and we're so thankful for what you do everyday for our boys and girls," SOSD Superintendent, Dr. Tony McGee said as he addressed the meeting. "The HWS staff should be incredibly proud of your work in helping students achieve these gains on the state tests."
The following teachers received awards for helping their classes achieve the highest performing school scores:
