Sudduth Elementary Celebrates Farm to School Week

By Nicole Thomas

It’s not everyday students have the opportunity to meet the farmer who grew the food served in their school cafeteria.

Local farmer Sam McLemore greeted students at Sudduth Elementary School as they made their way through the lunch line during Farm to School Week October 3-7.  Sam owns Bountiful Harvest Farms and the lettuces he grew were a featured vegetable choice on the lunch menu as part of the school’s celebration of Farm to School Week.    The lettuces along with Mississippi raised squash were two vegetable choices offered during lunch.  The school cafeteria is also serving Vardaman sweet potatoes from McGreger Farms and butternut squash from Lancaster Farms during the week of events highlighting local farmers and their vegetables.
