Filling SOCSD Clothes Closets Requires Steady Support

By Nicole Thomas

Clothes Closets in the Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District are stocked for the start of the new school year.

Walmart, Junior Auxiliary of Starkville and Second Baptist Church recently helped fill the closets at each school with generous donations of shirts, shorts, pants, underwear, socks, tights, backpacks, and even nap mats.  The full closets allow our school counselors and social workers to identify students who are in need of clothing for school.  In addition, when accidents occur at school, the clothes closet provide a quick change of clothes for students so they can return to class.

With more than 5,000 students, the need for clothing, however, is constant, and the Clothes Closets rely heavily on the kindess of others.  If your church or community organization is interested in supporting the clothes closets, please contact Marchelle Brain at marchellebrain@gmail.com for more information on how you can help.
