Search Begins for New High School Principal; Take Our Survey

By Nicole Thomas

The Starkville Oktibbeha School District Board of Trustees has named SHS Principal David Baggett assistant superintendent for personnel, technology and secondary curriculum and instruction.

Baggett, who will assume his new position on July 1, has served as SHS principal since 2014.  Since arriving at SHS, he’s focused much of his attention on academic programs.  He’s expanded AP offerings and dual credit/dual enrollment programs available through MSU and EMCC for our students.

Most recently, SHS earned the prestigious distinction of being named to the College Board’s AP Honor Roll  for the second year in a row under Baggett’s leadership.

The District has begun the process of forming a search committee which includes parents, teachers and students to find our next high school principal.  The District plans to advertise regionally for the position in several state publications utilizing organizations such as Mississippi School Boards Association, Mississippi Association of School Superintendents, and Mississippi Association of School Administrators as well as the Mississippi Department of Education.

The District has also developed a survey for high school students, parents and teachers to determine the top three qualities desired for new high school principal.  The search committee plans to draw from the survey results in creating both a rubric for reviewing applications and for devising interview questions.  Some parents and teachers may recall completing a similar survey in 2014, but with many new parents, students, employees and an expanded school community, the District wanted to reopen the survey to collect new responses.

Click on the link below to take the brief, open-ended survey now and help the search committee identify SHS’s new leader.  We want to hear from you.  Your feedback is important to this process!  The survey will be open until April 11.
