SHS Exceeds State and National Average on AP School Report

By Nicole Thomas

SHS students earned their highest marks in five years on AP exams, with the percentage of students earning a 3 or higher passing the state and national average, according to the AP Five Year School Summary Report.

65% of students at SHS scored a 3 or higher on their AP Exam in 2015 compared to 61% of students nationally and 37% of students in Mississippi.

In addition, the number of students taking AP courses has increased from 111 in 2011 to 190 in 2015 while the number of AP tests administered increased from 133 in 2011 to 258 in 2015.

“These scores are outstanding,” SHS Principal David Baggett said.  “While the administration has worked hard to provide the students and instructors the environment and motivation necessary for them to be successful,  the real credit lies with the students and teachers.  These scores reflect  the countless hours of work and dedication both groups put in to achieve such high marks.”

Here are 5 more fast facts from the 2015 report:
SHS students scored above the national average in 5 of 9 areas.
SHS students scored above the state average in 7 of 9 areas.
SHS students earned 31% of 5’s in AP Human Geography in MS.
SHS students earned 38% of 5’s in AP Stats in MS.
SHS students earned 48% of 5’s in AP Euro in MS.

Another huge accomplishment for our students and teachers at SHS! Great job! ‪#‎StarkvilleSpark
