SHS ACT Scores Hit Highest Mark in 5 Years

By Nicole Thomas

The average ACT score at SHS hit its highest mark in 5 years, according to a report released Wednesday.

The ACT Profile Report shows SHS students earned an average score of 19.7. That’s almost a point above the state average of 19. Students scored above the state average and achieved growth in every area. The highest average score was recorded in English at 19.9, which is 1.2 points above the state average.

“Our strategy of every class working on an ACT question every day and the addition of the ACT Prep classes at SHS paid dividends for our students,” said SHS Principal David Baggett.

The number of students tested also increased to its highest number in the last 5 years.

“This data  is proof that we have raised expectations and students are rising to the challenge,” said Baggett.  “Our teachers should never doubt the difference they are making in the lives of students.”

Congratulations to our students and teachers on their hard work and determination! What an accomplishment!
