Future Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District prepares for first year

By Nicole Thomas

As July 1 nears, the future Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District continues to prepare to bring our students together and to make our expanded district a true model for excellence in Mississippi, providing unprecedented opportunities for our students and sparking a new flame of education success.

Three student summits, a discovery day road show, numerous parent nights, and many planning sessions involving administrators and faculty from both districts have helped shape plans and given students and parents a glimpse of the opportunities that will be offered for the 2015-16 school year.

The most recent SOCSD Student Leadership Summit allowed students from East and West High School to spend half of the school day attending classes such as graphic design, geometry, and AP Biology at Starkville High School.  Students also experienced two class changes and enjoyed lunch with new friends in the Yellow Jacket Café.

Just two days prior to the summit, teachers, administrators and counselors visited East and West High Schools to talk to students about their schedules for the next school year, providing additional information about the academic, artistic, athletic and elective courses available.

SHS and Armstrong Middle School have also hosted three parent nights to welcome new families to the Starkville Oktibbeha Consolidated School District and to share information about the new district.
