SHS well represented in prestigious MSU Presidential Scholars Program

By Nicole Thomas

SHS seniors Shelby Adair, Kristen Lacy and Ben Mackin have been named finalists in the Mississippi State University Presidential Scholar Program for 2015-16.

Shelby, Kristen and Ben were selected from hundreds of applicants across the country for MSU’s most prestigious scholarship program.  Students are chosen for their remarkable achievements in high school and in the community, combined with their motivation to be an agent of change after college.

Presidential Scholars at MSU are awarded approximately $50,000, which covers tuition, fees, room and board, and books for four years of undergraduate study. Scholars are also assigned a mentor, who introduces the scholars to undergraduate research opportunities and to prestigious national fellowship opportunities such as the Rhodes, Truman, Gates and Goldwater Scholarships. In addition, MSU’s Presidential Scholars Program provides students the opportunity to study abroad or participate in a summer research or work internship.

SHS’s three finalists are among the most from any public or private high school, not only in Mississippi but throughout the U.S.
