For the second time in two years, a Starkville High School Singer will perform with the National Honor Choir during the American Choral Director Association’s National Conference. SHS junior Elizabeth Jones is among 300 students from across the country selected from more than 3,000 auditions for this honor.

“I’m so excited about the opportunity to perform with the very best singers from all over the country who share my love for choral music,” Elizabeth said of her selection.

Elizabeth, who performed Hallelujah, a traditional choral piece for her audition, will sing Spanish music with the Latin American Honor Choir, in Salt Lake City, Utah, in February.

As a participant, Elizabeth will also be immersed in three days of intense rehearsals under the direction of master conductors who are experts in their craft.

Jones is a member of the Soprano Alto Tenor Bass (SATB) Choir, Soprano Soprano Alto (SSA) Choir, SATB Madrigal Choir, and Women’s Sextet at SHS which are directed by Regina Weeks.  Elizabeth will be singing the role of Elsa from the movie “Frozen” during the SHS Singers Winter Concert next month.

In addition to her involvement with the SHS Singers, Elizabeth is also an avid musical theatre student and a member of the SHS Thespians.  She is currently rehearsing for her role as Margot in this year’s musical, “Legally Blonde.”

During the next several months, Elizabeth will study six advanced musical pieces that demonstrate her vocal range as the prepares for her national performance.
