Starkville High School and multiple community partners are a recipient of the 2022 Governor's Award from the Mississippi Association of Partners in Excellence (MAPE) for their work together to create excellent learning experiences for our high school students through the Academic Houses at Starkville High School.
With support from multiple community partners, the Academic Houses provide internships, job shadowing, site visits and other opportunities to help strengthen the connection between classroom instruction and real-world experiences.
Starkville High School officially announced Starkville Utilities as its first committed partner in August. Since then, numerous others have joined this community-based approach designed to put high school students on an advanced path toward career success.
Community partners have engaged students in entomology research, emergency response, water treatment, and much more to connect what students learn in the classroom to their future career interest.
SHS shares this award with the following community partners: Starkville Utilities, MSU Center for Entrepreneurship & Outreach, MSU Department of Sustainable Bioproduct, MSU Mechanical Engineering, Greater Starkville Development Partnership, Oktibbeha County Regional Medical Center, Chick-Fil-A,WCBI-TV, Dunkington Art & Jewlery, Backstage Music, and Black Girls Rock of Mississippi, Inc.
In addition to local community partners, the partnership award also recognizes Starkville High School's efforts to collaborate with the Mississippi Department of Education, National Career Academy Coalition, and Grand Island, Nebraska Senior High School, a career academy model, to successfully implement the Academic Houses at Starkville High School.
