The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) waiver that provided free meals to students during the Covid-19 pandemic expired on June 30, and it was not extended for the 2022-2023 school year. That means that school meals will no longer automatically be free for every student. Parents must submit a meal application for their students to qualify for free school meals for the 2022-2023 school year.
Apply online at www.starkvillesd.com/backtoschool.
Breakfast will continue to be served to all students free of charge. The cost of a full-price school lunch is $2.35. Students who qualify for reduce-price school lunch will continue to eat free due to a .40 cent increase in federal reimbursement, but parents must complete a school lunch application to determine eligibility.
