Three schools in the Starkville Oktibbeha School District are recipients of the PREPS Growth Award which recognizes schools who demonstrated growth on the Mississippi Academic Assessment Program (MAAP) even during the pandemic.
MAAP, Mississippi's state testing program, measures student achievement in English, math, science and history.
Students at Henderson Ward Stewart Elementary School, Overstreet Elementary School and Armstrong Jr High School performed higher on these tests in 2021 after two interrupted schools even as every state average scale score released by MDE dropped when compared to 2019.
"As a school district, we're always focused on growth, and these awards celebrate the work of our teachers and students during two really difficult years," said Supt. Eddie Peasant. "I couldn't be more proud of their efforts."
