Two Starkville High School students, Javad A’arabi and Michael Lu, will represent Mississippi at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair after winning Best of Fair at the state and regional level. This marks the third year in a row for SHS to compete at the international fair.
Javad earned Best of Fair at the 2018 Mississippi Science and Engineering Fair (MSEF) for his project, Adopting Lactobacillus and Organic Acids as Alternative Treatments to Necrotic Enteritis.
Michael picked up Best Fair Award, 2018 Intel Excellence in Computer Science Award, and Mu Alpha Theta Award at the 2018 Mississippi Region V Science and Engineering Fair for his project, Classification of Burholderia Species using Random Forest for Detection of Pathogenicity.
Javad and Michael led the way for the SHS Excalibur Science Club Team that collected a total of 21 awards at the state and regional level. MinJae Cho, Guillermo Hoffmann Meyer, Dennis Lee, Bryonie Mandal, Ada Fulgham and Zykaria Rogers also earned awards for their projects.
