The Starkville Oktibbeha School District introduced Qu'Varius Howard as the Yellow Jacket head basketball coach during a press conference Wednesday morning at Starkville High School.
Howard returns home to lead the Yellow Jackets as head coach after one year in Kemper County where he compiled a 15-3 record, winning a District championship and competing in the state semi-finals. Howard spent five years as an assistant coach for the Yellow Jackets from 2015-2020 working alongside Greg Carter to lead the Yellow Jackets to back-to-back state titles.
"He is a winner, who brings grit and confidence to the court," said Greg Owen, Director of Athletics, as he introduced Howard to Jacket fans.
"Coach Howard embraces the high expectation of excellence for Yellow Jacket basketball while outlining his plan for advanced the program to even greater heights," said Owen.
"This is a dream of mine since I started coaching," said Howard as he approached the podium to sounds of the fight song and cheers from his Jacket family. "To return home to the community I grew up in, to coach at the school I attended, and to lead this team."
Howard holds Bachelor of Science in sports administration from Belhaven University.
