GrOW Celebrates St. Patrick's Day during Jacket Thrive Intersession

The GrOW classroom kicked off Jacket Thrive Intersession camps today with a cooking celebration of St. Patrick's Day! Partnership Middle School GrOW instructor, Home Dumas, is introducing the classroom and wellness curriculum to 3rd-5th graders in our Jacket Thrive Enrichment Camp this week, and students made several green-themed recipes in the classroom's mobile kitchen. Camp participants were able to make and taste-test Irish Stew prepared and cooked right in the classroom together. They also made a "Green Flop Jell-O" dessert. Students are creating their own recipe books from what they are cooking this week so they can make them again at home with their families!

Mrs. Dumas' GrOW classroom rules require students to at least try each recipe they create! We hear the stew was a big hit... Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Hope Dumas, GrOW instructorSOCSD created the GrOW classroom through a $900,000 grant from the Blue Cross Blue Shield Foundation of Mississippi in 2020. In addition to mobile kitchens, the classroom also facilitates farm-to-table learning in the Partnership Middle School outdoor gardens, which are maintained each year by GrOW students who tend them from seedlings to harvest. Student in 6th grade may experience a 9-week rotation in GrOW, and 7th graders may choose to take it as a semester course.
